[Archives] Girls’ Generation’s Sunny Lee is Talented
After confirming the much rumored family relation, So Nyuh Shi Dae Sunny is receiving much attention after revealing that she is in fact Lee Soo Man niece. Her father, Lee Soo Young, is the elder brother of Mr. SM (CEO of SM Entertainment) and is also the representative of Sugar company. She also trained with Sugar for five years before training with SM Entertainment/SNSD.
Even before the groups debut, the most talked about rumor that left all fans curious was if Sunny (born Lee Soon Kyu) really was his niece. It was only a matter of time until all the new rumors and hate would spread from her confirmation of their blood ties. When this was first revealed, the Netizens stated “She probrably got into So Nyuh Shi Dae with her uncle’s help just so she could become famous.” But Sunny revealed that the truth was different and shared her story.
Sunny trained for years with another company, if she really wanted a quick road to fame by using her uncle help, she would have started her career with Lee Soo Man company in the first place. Especially since he is responsible for creating some of Korea’s biggest stars: H.O.T, SES, BoA, Shinhwa, Fly to the Sky, Dong Bang Shin Ki, and Chun Sang Ji Hui. In addition, it was only after SM Entertainment ‘Ayumi’ convinced Sunny to audition for SM that she made the switch and got in.
When the news that Sunny was Lee Soo Man’s niece was first confirmed, ‘SNSD Sunny’ and ‘Lee Soo Man’ ranked in the top 10 Korean search engine results.
Hi Mr.Oniontaker. I was on the AKP forums recently and I saw someone say that Sunny only got into SM because she was LSM’s niece. Based on what I know, Sunny was part of another company and when that company failed(?), she auditioned or somehow got into SM and LSM didn’t know that Sunny was in SM until after she already got in. Is this true?

The reason Sunny was able to sail through the SM auditions after leaving her previously company apparently upon a recommendation, was because she had already had years of training in that previous company. She didn’t even have to reveal that she was LSM’s niece to get in because she was already prepared for debut and was ready for the audition. This was also why she has such a short recorded training period length within the SM Academy.
If Sunny was only in the group because she was the niece and didn’t have anything of merit, why would she be one of the top singers of the group since debut and now? She has been one of the most outgoing members since debut, even when the other members were camera-shy, and has gone on to become the resident variety show expert of the group.
Perhaps it would be valid to say the following:
My point is that Sunny deserves and earned her position in SNSD on merit, not on family connections. She was the best trainee available for that position and has become a valued member of the group.

- Sunny was already to be part of the group when she joined the company, just months before debut;
- The reason she was ready, may have been because she was LSM’s niece: with even her father being a music producer, her family background meant that she was surrounded by music from an early age and they had the resources to send her to academies for training in the preceding years.
My point is that Sunny deserves and earned her position in SNSD on merit, not on family connections. She was the best trainee available for that position and has become a valued member of the group.

Sunny Proudly Wins the Title of ‘National Soonkyu’ on ‘Invincible Youth 2′

During the latest recording of “Invincible Youth 2″, the idols of G8 became grandchildren for the local village’s elderly members. In this episode, Girls’ Generation’s Sunny and SiSTAR’s Bora became partners, and cooked for one of the grandmothers of the village. At their first meeting, Sunny introduced herself by asking the grandmother to choose between calling her “Sunny” or “Soonkyu”. The moment Sunny finished her sentence, the grandmother yelled out “Soonkyu!”, showing that Sunny’s reputation from the “Invincible Youth”‘s first season has carried over. In fact, the other elderly members of the village have been calling Sunny “Soonkyu” since the start of the program.
This episode of “Invincible Youth 2″ will be aired this Saturday, February 4th.

Before their performance, David Letterman remarked, “Our next guests are a very popular group from South Korea who have just released their first album in America, it’s entitled ‘The Boys‘. Please welcome, making their network television debut, Girls’ Generation!”

Which Girls’ Generation member cares the least about their appearance? According to a few members, it’s none other than Sunny!
On the January 27th broadcast of SBS FM‘s ‘Park So Hyun’s Love Game‘, Taeyeon, Sooyoung, and Seohyun appeared as guests and revealed some interesting info about the group.
During the show, a past article about Seohyun being picked as the member who cares the most about her appearance was brought up. Taeyeon and Sooyoung explained, “At the time, [We] chose Jessica, but our responses were overshadowed by the louder voices of the other members. Seohyun was probably chosen because she looks at the mirror the most.”
For fun’s sake, host Park So Hyun then asked, “Which member cares the LEAST about their visual appearance?” to which the members responded, “Sunny“.
Seohyun explained, “Sunny unnie looks at the mirror the least [in our group]. I hold the mirror and show it to Sunny unnie. I’m the one who even tells her that her mascara has spread all over her eyes.”

Sunny Featured in Brown Eyed Girls’ Miryo’s First Solo Teaser

Sunny has made a surprise appearance in Brown Eyed Girls’ member Miryo’s first solo teaser. The teaser was just released, and to everyone’s astonishment, Miryo was not the main actor. Sunny’s unmistakable short blonde hair was the first clue shown until she turned around to reveal a chic look with sunglasses.
Sunny formed a close relationship with another Brown Eyed Girls member, Narsha, during their filming of “Invincible Youth”, and their friendship has lasted, with the two snapping a selca together recently. It looks like Sunny has become close with the other members of Brown Eyed Girls as well.

Sunny Crowned ‘Best Mentor’ On ‘Girls’ Generation and Dangerous Boys’

Girls’ Generation’s Sunny was named the best mentor on “Girls Generation and Dangerous Boys”. In an upcoming episode of “Girls’ Generation and Dangerous Boys”, Girls’ Generation had a quiz battle. The quiz looked to see which member of Girls’ Generation, after having served as a mentor for nine weeks, knew the boy she was mentoring best. The members participated enthusiastically, with their pride on the line as mentors.
Sunny, surprisingly, got the most questions right in the intense, close match, winning the title as “best mentor”.
The episode will be broadcast on January 22nd.

Sunny Receives Praise for Her Hard Work in ‘Koala Kid’

The large amount of effort that Sunny put into voice acting for “Koala Kid: Birth of a Great Hero” is drawing praise from the director of the movie. The movie’s director, Lee KyungHo, said he has “fallen for Sunny” after seeing how hard she works. “We had to record at the end of the year, but because Girls’ Generation had so many schedules, we had to record at dawn. In Sunny’s case, she could look at the script (while recording), but she came with the entire thing memorized. She even matched her voice with how the mouth looks in the animation.”
Not only did she come to the recording fully prepared, but she also made sure her best work was shown. Lee KyungHo continued, “We recorded for two days, and we finished accordingly on the second day. I told Sunny, ‘I really like it, but if you think anything is weird, we can go through it again.’ Sunny said she wanted to record it again from the start, and some parts came out better [than the first time].”
Last week, Sunny attended a press conference for the film where she thanked her fellow members Taeyeon and Seohyun for their advice on dubbing for an animated movie. “Koala Kid: Birth of a Great Hero” will be released on January 12th.
