I just had to get this off my chest and let you guys know it's really not that serious...
Your oppas, unnies, noonas, and hyungs will understand and will agree that you have to calm your fucking crazy asses down...

SNSD's "Gee" Crowned as KPop Song of the Decade

by Girls Generation Soshi on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 5:07am

In the 2000's, the Korean music industry has replaced the ballad genre that was so dominating since the 1980's with idol groups who focus on dance music. Girl groups like Wonder Girls, Kara, 2ne1 and boy groups like Big Bang and 2PM have all become the strongest influences in the mainstream music industry. In the end, the song of the decade of the 2000's was 'Gee' by Girls' Generation.

The accomplishment of being named song of the decade is made even more impressive by the fact that 'Gee' was released at the end of the decade in 2009. With a record-setting nine consecutive wins on Music Bank, 'Gee' left an impressive impact that solidified Girls' Generation's status as the dominating force in the Korean music industry.

Making a stand in the midst of the trend of idol groups and girl groups are "Pure Talent" singers. Korea's representative R&B icons, Brown Eyes, managed to place as a dark-horse second in the chart with the song 'Little by Little'. Ballad, rock and other genres have also been significant in the Korean music industry. The past decade has drawn a distinct line between music "to be seen" and music "to be heard".

However, the decade's most attractive genre were idol groups and girl groups who were born at the heart of dance music. Their influence has grown to the point where their activities are considered to be at the center of South Korea's pop culture. Girls' Generation, Wonder Girls, Kara, Big Bang, Super Junior, 2PM, 2AM, SHINee and other idol groups' busy activities close out this decade with a dominating presence.

After ending the decade as one of Korea's top musical groups, Girls' Generation will now attempt to leave the same powerful impression on Japan. With the recent release of 'MR. TAXI' and the prospect of a full Japanese concert tour, the girls appear to be off to a good start in working towards that goal.

Leespiar's 2011 1st Half survey of biggest female kpop artists

by Girls Generation Soshi on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 9:54am
#1 SNSD 22.5%
#2 IU 21.4%
#3 Baek JiYoung 13.3%
#4 Lee Sora 8.3%
#5 2NE1 7.9%
#6 Lee EunMi 7.7%
#7 Park JangHyun 7.0%
#8 Kara 6.0%
#9 Lee Hyori 5.9%

2010
Leespiar survey together with the Gallup poll are used by the advertising industry in Korea. These are not internet polls they are professionally conducted surveys so you can always refer to them as the most authoritative surveys on Korean celebrities. In general very few top kpop artists can get near 20%. It's extremely hard to get more than 30% - such percentage can only be achieved when there are enough support from all age groups surveyed.

Leespiar female artists results since 2003 and you can see the level of public support SNSD has

2009
That's the survey from Leespiar Research done every 6 months. It is a professional survey of whole Korean public and it's something used by advertisers to determine star power when selecting CF models.

Here's the chart for female artists for the last 7 years

You can see how popular Rain and Lee Hyori are, and how the idol groups have taken over now. Wonder Girls slid down since not being active in Korea but they should join the list again when they come back. 2PM and 2ne1's inclusion is really notable. As you can see it's very hard to get over 30% on this survey. SNSD's big numbers result from being popular across all age groups and being top entertainers in many different fields of variety, CF, radio, drama.

So it is really Sonyuh Shidae now. It's funny when the name Sonyuh Shidae was first revealed Koreans laughed at it. Sonyuh is not really a term used in everyday Korean, it's more something that used to be used 50 years ago. And similarly Shidae is a term popularly used in titles of novels and movies before the modern times. The term Sonyuh Shidae feels 60's, tacky, and sounds ridiculously grand. That was 2 years ago. Today people are amazed how SM came up with that name, the term "Jigeum eun Sonyuh Shidae!" defines everything now.

What does the future hold for Kpop in Japan?

2am news Japan Hallyu future
What does the future hold for Kpop in Japan?

“Although the Japan Entertainment industry faces difficulties due to the Japan earthquake, Kpop powers might be undermined by the situation too. Currently, the South Korean government is paying close attention to Tokyo tourism. Although the contents of reports pertaining to the radiation issue are yet to be known, people are wary of the radiation effects. Forcing them (the Kpop powers) into the market is also impossible.”
Tokyo Sports reported that some Japanese entertainment researchers made disappointment predictions such as – ‘Is Kpop coming to an end?’. Kara’s Music Station performance which was scheduled to be aired on 18th of March was canceled due to some difficulties. After the earthquake, (the company) also requested to cancel their casting for events in April.
Media stated that as Kpop stars in Japan returned back to Korea to cut down losses while male group Big Bang and girl groups that initially planned to appear as new stars may also break their agreements with Japan and refuse to advance into its market.
Besides Korean artists, western artists have also canceled their schedules in Japan, one by one. On 22nd of March, Ne-Yo who was scheduled to hold a concert in Yokohama made an official announcement that he would only step up on stage if radiation level is made known to him.
At the same time, event observers in Japan are concerned if the explosive popularity of Kpop will disappear eventually. As it requires time for the earthquake and radiation problems to be solved, there are many possible outcomes that might happen to Kpop in Japan.
Also, Japanese entertainment producers who are familiar with Korea entertainment industry mentioned in Tokyo Sports, “Although Korean artists like Kara’s Goo Hara are showing support for the disasters, we do not think that there will be another similar Kpop boom again (in the future). In any case there will be some losses.”
“Be it any event or new song releases, if the singers do not come (to Japan), promotions are impossible. That is why achieving similar popularity as before is very difficult”. The newspaper also stated that even after all situations go back to normal in Japan, the booming of Kpop in Japan is still a big question mark.

[Vote] TaeYeon - Who is the best among the best? (Who is the best kpop group leader?)

Who is the best among the best? (Who is the best kpop group leader?)
I'm a little disappointed seeing that Yunho/U-Know (TVXQ) nor Jay Park (2PM) was on the list -_-.
